Aluminium Flake Powder

Consistent aluminium pigment powders for a wide range of applications

Our aluminium flake powders are produced in a wet milling process and the drying is done in a vacuum drying process which is our own Carlfors invention. In the drying process the aluminium flakes are allowed to oxidize in a controlled environment to ensure a safe and consistent product for our customers.

Our powders are well suited for technical applications like Autoclaved Aerated Concrete, and Civil Explosives, where the choice of lubricant and additives during the milling process gives different characteristics, leafing or non-leafing for the final product. Our products for pigment applications are commonly used in Powder Coatings, Printing Inks, Textile Coatings etc.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) – Light Weight Concrete (LWC)

Carlfors has a complete range of technical powders for Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC). Beside the particle size and particle size distribution we can also supply you with different characteristics for water dispersability or dwell time in the mixing tank. We have developed three series of powders, F-series, G-series and T-series where each series have its unique properties to create the right hydrogen gas evolution, pore structure, density and compressive strength.

We are always ready to visit your factory for testing together with you or receiving the raw materials to be tested and verified at Carlfors own autoclave aerating test center. Since we have experience from full scale production we can assist in any light weight concrete factory as troubleshooters or to make full-scale tests and evaluation of the process. We have great knowledge about the different light weight concrete processes like Siporex, Ytong and Hebel.

Atomized Powder

Our atomized powders are manufactured by solidifying an aluminium melt by high pressure air. Extensive sieving divides the aluminium powder to different fineness. A coating can be applied to achieve different properties according to our customers demands.

Our coated powders are used for Civil Explosives and our uncoated powders have a wide range of applications, like Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) or model casting.

Explosives

Aluminium Flake Powder and Atomized Powder are very effective sources of energy.

Our atomized powders for emulsion explosives are used to increase energy and blast effect. We offer different coatings for better chemical resistance in our customers systems.

In water gels the addition of flake powder not only increases the energy but also the sensitivity. Our flake powders are available with different types of coatings.

A special series of flakes are used for initiation systems, non-electric spark ignition systems. A thin coating of aluminium powder inside the initiation tube is applied and the firing impulse is similar to a dust explosion.

Carlfors has a long tradition of supplying powder for the Explosives industry and with our extensive range of products we have a powder for almost every application.

Printing Inks - Leafing Powder

Leafing pigments gets their distinctive properties from the fatty acid lubricant in the milling process. The non-wetting characteristics of the leafing pigments tends to align the flakes at the surface of the coating film and creates a bright silver finish.

Powder Coating

Our pigments for powder coatings can either be leafing or non-leafing, corn flake or Silver Dollar type.

The leafing type pigments are suitable for dry blended or bonded powder coating systems and provide a specular chrome like appearance.

The non-leafing type pigments can be encapsulated with either an inorganic silica coating or an organic polymer type coating.

The silica coating provides superior spraying characteristics in either Tribo or Corona powder coat systems providing superior charge separation help eliminate problems such as picture framing as well as enhancing the chemical resistance of the metallic appearance.

The organic polymer encapsulation of the pigment imparts exceptional chemical resistance to the metallic effect and indeed can be made to meet the International Qualicoat standard for architectural powder coatings if required.

The encapsulated pigments can be either bonded or dry blended with the powder coat system.
